Essay below the jump
With the development of new technology, people are able to
solve many problems by themselves. Therefore, some claim that the government is
no longer indispensable. However, would this claim ever come true? Can we live
in a society that is without laws and rules? Could people really solve
everything on their own? Of course not. Only the government has the power to
safeguard national security; to build a perfect education system and to
establish public facilities. Governments should always exist.
First of all, people could never handle problems of social
security by themselves. Imagine that your country is invaded by a
superpower-how would an individual weather the turmoil and chaos without
military aid? Perhaps the idea of such a war is too far fetched, but what about
local crises? If a thief stole your wallet when you were riding a bus, or someone
without your permission used your credit card, what would you do? You would ask
the police for help and they would catch the thief, and get your money back for
you. Such problems could only be resolved through government aid.
Secondly, to form a functioning education system is a
difficult task, which is beyond an individual’s capability and cannot be
completed without government assistance. Individuals would not be able to hire
teachers for children who live in poor and underdeveloped areas. Nor would they be able to afford high-tech
equipment for public schools or establish policies such as the
9-year-compulsory education policy in China. The government plays a significant
role, which could never be replaced by citizens. For example, the best way to
improve the quality of education is to increase the teacher's income, and to raise
teacher's social status. And all such things need the government.
Last but not least, society has always greatly benefited
from the public facilities which the government dedicates itself to
establishing. Consider transportation as an example. It is impossible for an
individual or a singular family to build new railways or widen highways on
their own. To alleviate traffic congestion, governments spend large sums of
money to manage traffic patterns and direct transportation services. Such coordination
is simply not found through individual effort. It is the government’s
responsibility to make travel more convenient because it has the manpower to do
so.
All in all, when it comes to big issues like social
security, education, and public facilities, people, rich as them seem today,
still need outside help. We still need to rely on the government’s assistance
and its role simply cannot be neglected.
Looks good Yida, though don't you think the title would work better in this post, and then you could even get rid of the other post. But your video is engaging ... I love the pictures!
