Should parents encourage their children to play school sports?

For this project, I was interested in studying the issue of school sports. According to a recent survey, 70 percent of students quit play school sports and the number will continue to increase in the future. This may become to  a big problem in the future. Because without enough exercise, students cannot be really  heathy.

In the project, I have looked for a lot of articles about the negative effects of not playing school sports. I also noticed that some parents don't encourage their children to get involved in playing school sports which is terrible.

In order to show people the necessity of playing school sports, I found some vocabulary about school school then I read two articles and wrote summaries, made an short movie to introduce my essay, and here is the my formal argument essay.

I hope you can agree with me and make more students join in school sports. Because only in this way,  the children can have a stronger body and be discovered their athletic talent and be built their self-confidence.

Formal Argument

Should parents encourage their children to play school sports?

According to a recent survey, 70 percent of students quit play school sports and the number will continue to increase in the future. Some people think playing school sports is a waste of time. However, I believe parents should encourage their children to play school sports because children will build their team work spirit; they can make their body stronger through playing sports and they will also discover their athletic talent and build their self confidence.

I have heard lots of voices of against children playing school sports. Some people might overstate that children will not have enough time to study if they play sports. Admittedly, Children will spend couple hours in playing sports, however, as long as they know using time wisely. I don’t think there will be much to be worried about. Because children can save lots of time from doing other things, such as playing computer games, watching TVs and hanging out with friends. In America, students always finish school at 3 o’clock; and they will go to bed around 10. They definitely are able to take 2 hours to play sports.

One reason that parents should encourage their children to get involved in sports is it will teach them teamwork spirit. Sports are not individual activities. No matter basketball, football or soccer, it is requires team working and understanding of each other’s. If children want to play those sports well, then they have to adapt each other to achieve a mutual goal. They have to know how teammates thinking and try to coordinate with other members. In this way they will gain the spirit of teamwork.
Another reason we should let children go outside is it will make their bodies stronger and healthier. There is a famous proverb that says “Life lies in movement." Exercise makes people healthier because as soon as you make your heart pumping, new cells and tissues will be built. That makes your body healthier. It doesn’t matter if children run or bike, swim or play ball games, as soon as they going out and exercise, their body will be healthier and stronger everyday.

However, the most important reason we should encourage children to play sports is they can discover their talent and build their confidence. Lots of great players had been found when they were playing in school sports team. Lots of schools have talent shows, because children need a stage to show their talent, and parents want their kids to be confident. In the same way, school sports are another stage for students to show their intelligence. For example, LeBron Raymone James and Kobe Bryant are considered as the two best NBA players today. Both of them played in NBA right after they graduated from high school; if their parents had kept them from playing school basketball, they would not have had the chance to show their talent. They also would not have had any chance to be discovered by NBA scout, and they would not have been the best players in NBA.

To sum up all above, parents should encourage their children to get involved in school sports. It’s not going to take all the study time of the students but will build their teamwork spirit, make their body stronger and healthier and discover their athletic talent and build their self-confidence.

summary of the essay

In "Encouraging Your Child to Play Sports" by Scott Lancaster, shows that 70% of children quit playing sports and the number will increase in the future. And Scott Lancaster suggests parents encouraging their children to play sports. He thinks it is the time for a change to the young children about 12 years old. Then Scott says children should forget the scoreboard, and he offers five suggestions: let children get involved; hold league-wide practices/clinics; let kids decide; let kids coach; and establish a parent representative. Finally he claims that parents can help return youth sports to what they should be.

In the article “Why Is Exercise Good For You?” from life learning today website, the author started with a saying to point out that as soon as you exercise your body will respond by building new cells and tissues. Then he continues to explain how exercise makes body stronger and healthier by showing the effect of movement in blood vessels, red blood cells, heart, muscle, and VO2 Max.When you exercise all of them will start working and making your body become fresh and fill of energy. The author also shows that it doesn’t matter what kinds of sports people play, all of them will good for your body.

Governments should always exist.

With the development of new technology, people are able to solve many problems by themselves. Therefore, some claim that the government is no longer indispensable. However, would this claim ever come true? Can we live in a society that is without laws and rules? Could  people really solve everything on their own? Of course not. Only the government has the power to safeguard national security; to build a perfect education system and to establish public facilities. Governments should always exist.
First of all, people could never  handle problems of social security by themselves. Imagine that your country is invaded by a superpower-how would an individual weather the turmoil and chaos without military aid? Perhaps the idea of such a war is too far fetched,  but what about local crises? If your wallet was stolen by a thief when you were riding a bus, or your credit card was used by someone without your permission, what would you do? You would ask the police for help and they would catch the thief, and get your money back for you. Such problems could only be resolved through government aid.
Secondly, to form a functioning education system is a difficult task which is beyond an individual’s capability and cannot be completed without government assistance. Individuals would not be able to  hire teachers for children who live in poor and underdeveloped areas.  Nor would they be able to afford high-tech equipment for public schools or  establish policies such as the 9-year-compulsory education policy in China. The government plays a significant role which could never be replaced by citizens. For example, the best way to improve the quality of education is to increase the teacher's income, and to rise teacher's social statusAnd all such things need the government
Last but not least, society has always greatly benefited from the public facilities which the government dedicates itself to establishing. Consider transportation as an example. It is impossible for an individual or a singular family to build new railways or widen highways on their own. To alleviate traffic congestion, governments spend large sums of money to manage traffic patterns and direct transportation services. Such coordination is simply not found through individual effort. It is the government’s responsibility to make travel more convenient because it has the manpower to do so.
All in all, when it comes to big issues like social security, education, and public facilities, people, rich as them seem today, still need outside help. We still need to rely on the government’s assistance and its role simply cannot be neglected.
